The way Women's day is celebrated by flooding in-boxes with forwards, facebook walls with statuses and phone calls with greetings, it makes me wonder if most women themselves believe they are existent only on this particular day, the whole year.
If this day is celebrated to bring in equality, where is the equality if a men's day is almost non-existent. If discrimination is the reason, how often have you heard of a men's bill? If it is vanity, then why select a particular day for that, when you attain achievements on other days too? If you still cling onto the inequality and discrimination, is this the only day of the year when you need it? When most women expect them to be showered with wishes and praises on this day of womanhood, it would be a nice self analysis if they asked themselves what they did for another woman on this holy day, besides wishing her. Other than the companies who get another day to sell their products with offers and at cut off prices, is there any feminine soul who significantly benefits from this day? What exactly is the reason behind this celebration?
There was a recent post about the sacrifices a woman does from the day she gets married. She changes her name, leaves her home, becomes pregnant, almost gives up in the labour room and much more; all for her man. Isn't not getting married and living a joyful life a simple solution to avoid sacrifices, if that is what she wants. Is it a woman who pulls herself down for the need of sympathy, empathy, care and love? Time for some introspection.
Wish there were more women in the world with self belief and a strong mind celebrating all the 365 days of a year instead of just a single day when they receive roses and chocolates for being a woman.
